Facelift & necklift: Turn back time

Objective: Restore a youthful appearance by removing excess skin

Treatment time: 5 to 7 hours

Recovery: 1-2 weeks

As the years go by, it’s natural for tissues to lose their elasticity, leading to sagging skin, wrinkles and the loss of precious fat pads on the face. However,we often feel younger than the image we see in the mirror.

The facelift is an incredible surgery that restores a youthful, revitalized appearance by returning tissues to their place, removing excess skin and smoothing out wrinkles.

The facelift has several advantages:

01. Improves sagging face and neck
02. Reduces fine wrinkles
03. Raises cheekbones
04. Smoothes nasolabial folds
05. Reduces the jawline
06. Improves the jowl

We can therefore say that it is the surgery par excellence for rejuvenating the face and neck

How do you know if you would benefit from this procedure?

01. Stand in front of the mirror with your face relaxed.
02. Place your fingers: thumb under the jaw, index and middle fingers on the cheek.
03. Make a gentle pull, backwards and slightly upwards

Did you recognize your face and neck from 10, 15, 20 years ago? Did you like the result?

Then it will benefit greatly from a facelift.

Very often this surgery is combined with others in order to completely rejuvenate the face and improve the result, taking advantage of the same surgical and recovery time.

Examples include the browlift, upper and/or lower blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the periocular region, the lip lift to improve lip aesthetics, and facial lip grafting to restore youthfulness in cases of volume loss with a deflated appearance.

Take the first step towards feeling better, with a plan designed for you and natural, long-lasting results.

What to Expect from Treatment

The surgery can take between 5 and 7 hours, depending on the complexity of the case and the areas to be treated. Each procedure is personalized, so the time can vary according to each person’s specific needs.

General anesthesia, for greater safety.

Around the pinna, along the hairline (in front of and behind the pinna). An incision below the chin may be necessary, depending on the aesthetic needs of each patient’s neck.

Through deep tissue manipulation (SMAS), the structures of the face and neck are returned to their youthful position, avoiding tension in the skin, guaranteeing better, longer-lasting results and less visible scars.

The stitches are removed within the first week. Bruising is normal, but disappears within the first 15 days, as is swelling. The post-operative period is relatively painless. However, there will be a feeling of tension in the face and neck. Although this is uncomfortable, it is a sign of surgical success and will disappear after one to two weeks.

Recovery from this surgery may seem difficult in the first few days, but the results are extremely rewarding and gratifying.

This will be achieved after 3-6 months. The scars will continue to improve beyond this period, becoming increasingly camouflaged in the surrounding structures.

Time will continue to pass, but you will still look at least 10 years younger than your real age. The stability of the result will depend on four factors, three of which you can control: smoking avoidance, lack of weight fluctuations and sun exposure/use of sunscreen. The last factor, and the only one that can’t be changed, is your genetic makeup.

Patients who smoke should avoid smoking for at least four weeks before surgery and two weeks after surgery. Smoking habits reduce blood supply to the skin and healing areas, which can lead to delayed healing and other complications. Hypertensive patients have a higher risk of bruising after surgery, so they should have their blood pressure controlled.

Frequently Asked Questions

All the answers are carefully explained so that you always feel confident.

It’s a fear that is often questioned in the consultation. This surgery is not transformative, it is rejuvenation surgery. In other words, you will retain your visual identity, but with the youthful appearance you had in the past.

In younger patients, in their 20s and 30s, isolated neck surgery is possible. The solution can be liposuction or an isolated necklift, depending on the anatomical reason for the dissatisfaction with the neck. If excess superficial fat
is the reason, liposuction will suffice. If the cause is more structural, involving deep structures such as muscles, deep fat or salivary glands, the most effective solution is a necklift.

In some patients, the reason for their dissatisfaction with their profile may be a receding or small chin. Here the strategy may be to
place a chin implant or to advance the chin without an implant.

They are the same procedure, just with different names.
